What is the difference between SRT and VTT?
SRT (SubRip Text) is the oldest and most widely supported subtitle format: numbered cues, comma-separated timestamps, plain text. WebVTT is the web-native standard defined for the HTML5 <track> element. It drops the numeric counters, uses a period as the millisecond separator, starts with a WEBVTT header, and supports extras like styling, positioning and metadata.
Why convert SRT to VTT?
Browsers and HTML5 video players expect WebVTT for caption tracks. If your editing or transcription tool exports SRT but you are embedding video on the web, you need the VTT version. The conversion is mostly mechanical: swap the comma in timestamps for a period, drop the cue numbers, and add the WEBVTT header.
